For many, summer means vacation. However, hunger does not take time off. All year long, more than 24,200 people in the Outaouais region turn to Moisson Outaouais and its affiliated organizations to get the food they need.

Such is the case of Fanny who must adapt to a new way of life. More than a year ago, on the eve of her fortieth birthday, she learned that she had a degenerative disease, which in turn led her to quit her full-time job as an early childhood educator. Employment insurance will be given to her for a mere few weeks, to help her face this brutal reality. However, she soon realizes this will not be enough to cover her increased expenses related to medication, medical equipment, and, more importantly, her basic needs. Given this new life chapter, Fanny can’t but face the fact that she must cut down on groceries and call on her local food bank to eat properly. This support will provide her with a respite while she reorganizes her financial arrangements.

This is just one of the many stories we’ve heard from the beneficiaries of our dedicated organizations.

Multiply the amount of your donation by 10 to find out the real value of the food aid you’ll be giving to a local family.

Are you aware that every month, in the Outaouais, over 700 people using food assistance are employment insurance beneficiaries?

The Impact of Your Contribution

Respond to a Vital Need

Eating is a fundamental need, critical for the survival of any human being. When someone is in a vulnerable situation, emergency food aid brings an immediate solution by providing adequate nourishment.

Bring the Community Togheter

For people living alone, soup kitchens provide a meeting place. Gathering around a warm meal fosters discussions and new encounters and relieves loneliness. By working together to alleviate hunger, these organizations share the common goal of creating a stronger and more resilient social fabric.

Promote Social Justice

Access to food is a vital right that contributes to a fairer world and greater solidarity. At shelters and temporary accommodation centers, people experiencing homelessness receive not only meals but also reassurance, safety, and kindness, as well as the tools to build a better quality of life.

Relieve Psychological, Physical and Financial Stress

With the current economic situation, the drastic increase of the cost of living has a major impact, even more so on low-income families. This is why family centers act as a hub to reinforce the family nest. Among other things, they are the gate to other resources such as learning to cook to fulfill children’s nutritional needs.
