Moisson Outaouais Announces an Expansion Project to Meet Growing Food Security Needs

June 22, 2026

Moisson Outaouais announced today the launch of its “Growing Together” expansion project, a crucial step toward strengthening its capacity to meet the growing needs of food-insecure individuals in the region.

As demand for food assistance continues to rise, with more than

94,000 requests fulfilled each month, representing a 48% increase over four years, the current facilities are no longer sufficient to meet the community’s needs.

This transformative project aims to expand the infrastructure in order to:

• Increase storage and distribution capacity;

• Improve food management, particularly for fresh and perishable items;

• Optimize workspaces for staff and volunteers;

• Strengthen support for affiliated organizations throughout the region.

With a total investment of $6 million, this project includes an 8,200-square-foot expansion—6,500 square feet of which will be dedicated to the warehouse—as well as the expansion of a food preparation kitchen and multifunctional spaces for the community.

Today, demand exceeds our capacity. This expansion is essential to continue meeting the needs of the thousands of people who rely on our network every month. It’s not a luxury—it’s a necessity. This project is much more than just an expansion. It is a concrete investment in the dignity, health, and future of our community,” says Joseph Aghaby, Chair of the Board of Directors.

Thanks to this expansion, Moisson Outaouais will be able to:
•    Recover up to 1 million additional kilograms of food per year;
•    Triple its food production capacity, from 800 to 3,000 meals per day;
•    Support more children through the expansion of the school meal program, La Cantine pour tous;
•    Reduce food waste by processing and distributing more surplus food;
•    Better meet the needs of its 51 affiliated organizations throughout the Outaouais region.

This project has received support from the Quebec Food Banks’ Financial Assistance Program for the Development of Storage Infrastructure, which is funded by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food. Thanks to this $1 million contribution and the support of our partners, construction will begin soon.

A major $3.5 million fundraising campaign is being launched today to enable the full completion of this large-scale project.

This campaign is part of a long-term vision aimed at ensuring the sustainability of the services we offer and guaranteeing that no food donations are turned away due to lack of space, while adapting to the evolving needs of the population and our affiliated organizations.
