BACKGROUND

In 2004, a working committee acknowledged the necessity to create a regional organization to fight hunger through the recuperation and free redistribution of foodstuffs. At the very beginning, the Ottawa Food Bank supplied 24 local organizations, helping more than 6,000 individuals, a solution that proved to be insufficient in view of the number of people facing food insecurity in the region.

In close partnership with various food security organizations, Moisson Outaouais was created in 2006. This collaboration has allowed to ensure continuity in food supply, thus fostering its progressive autonomy, and reinforcing its role with affiliated organizations.

Having to deal with an ever-growing demand, Moisson Outaouais endeavours to increase its ability to recuperate and distribute food, thanks to improved facilities and a larger staff.

The community’s continuous commitment, including the community, political and commercial sectors, supports the development of Moisson Outaouais, thus demonstrating that together, we can make a significant difference in the fight against hunger.
