Hunger Snapshot

The problem of hunger in the Outaouais region is a reality. Every day, thousands of men, women and children go hungry. The growing demand and the present economic crisis weaken vulnerable people even more.
 

HUNGER in the Outaouais region, IN A NUTSHELL:

  • 94,036 food assistance requests were made in March 2025. This represents a 48% increase compared to 2021. 
  • 21% of those requesting food assistance are employed
  • 4,452 households received food assistance, a steady increase since 2021. .
  • Nearly half of the people who received help are families
  • Two-parent families make up 25.1%, an increase of 3.7% over the past four years. 
    • Children account for 36.9% of this group, almost 7% more than four years ago. 
  • 162,785 kg of food was distributed in March 2025 alone — 16% more than in 2024 — all this thanks to the dedication of 51 partner organizations

HUNGER-count

The Hunger-Count is the only national survey on emergency food aid programs in Canada. Data is collected in March, from our 51 affiliated organizations, established  the Outaouais region. They serve as a basis for many Moisson Outaouais activities throughout the year.
